When we were studying at IIT, ISRO's space launches would typically end up in the Bay of Bengal instead. We used to discuss what went wrong (one of them failed due to a floating point error in the software, if I remember right) but overall I used to see the failures as a symbol of how India's government-sponsored projects just never succeed. Even today, one is bewildered at the glacially slow progress and huge cost overruns in the
Light Combat Aircraft,
Arjun Main Battle Tank and
Light Combat Helicopter projects, for example.
But in missile and space technology, India seems to have come a long way. And Chand

rayaan's discovery of water on the moon, however fortuitous, is a great story! I was lucky enough to see it while in Germany, on US television. It was also interesting to note that while the sensor Chandrayaan used had been given by NASA, CNN directed the majority of the coverage to Chandrayaan and the Indian connection rather than to that piece of equipment. It was another step forward in the building of the country's brand image.
"What one man can do, another can do" - which, by the way, appears to come from ancient Latin: "ILLUD AB HOMINE FACTUM AB ALTERO FIERI POTEST"!

Good Morning Sir
First of all congratulations to you as an Indian and from an Indian for the achievement of ISRO. We failed before but this time we did and India has again shown the world of its potentials.
Sir, yesterday i was reading an article in a Hindi newspaper and i was shocked to read that scientists believe that a colony can be set up on Moon.Certainly a great thought even when we doesn't have proper place to live in for millions of poor Indians. the cost of this mission estimated and incurred was 78 million dollars( i read it somewhere) which could have helped millions of people living without electricity, clean water or sanitation, people who don't know what else is going around them because they are too busy in earning their livelihood.
I know that every coin has two faces but the other side of this coin is very much dark.... far away from any light. Going on moon was a great job done but what about our 53% population which still lives below poverty line.
We have to think about that also.
All i can say is "yeh des hai mera"
warm regards
Rahul Mundra.
