I came to know a researcher who has developed some super cool technology and is now looking at a way to productize it. He is Swedish and his name is Alex Oswal. Check out the public domain videos demonstrating his technology, especially this and this one. Aren't the spatially aware handhelds cool?
Now here is a competition - can you suggest innovative uses for this technology? If someone can suggest several innovative (and sensible) uses of this technology, he/she will be given a chance to work on a paid student project around it.
Let your ideas flow! And do give it some time. The ideas that you come up with in 5 minutes are not likely to be good; think about it for a few hours and you may have something truly innovative.

Thank you Sir for the post.Following are the ideas which I could think of to work on this new technology:
1)Employee Monitoring System :
Now a days all the companies are very cautious about data theft so this surface fusion technology can be used in that area.
2)Employee Identification:
By using surface fusion technology we can have employee identification cameras mounted near door so that no need to take their attendance.
This can also be useful for marking students attendance i.e. when they will sit inside their classroom they can be identified.

I got 2 ideas
regarding usage of the above technologies :
1)when People use GPS navigation it becomes quite boring instead of that what we can do using surface fusion technology is that whenever they will see place through camera they can actually identify the place so no need to type for it.Also technology provides search capability it show related places nearby.
2) It can act as an indoor guide in case of large buildings,Hotels and old monuments. What I think in this case the technology which video shows (light sense)we can use reverse of that. Basically it is tracking actual place from its map and if it could track map from its actual location and give feedback to its user and shows information that will be very useful and can be easily commercialized.

Its really nice to see this kind of technology.
Its very similar with the Business Intelligence software of Microsoft.
I would like to request you to see that video BI of Microsoft.
This technology can be use in forces to identify the location(mapping).
This can also be used in ticket reservation system (i.e.,Railway,Airlines etc.)
As I'll get more ideas I will keep comment on it.

I went through this article 2days ago by downloading all the videos in the link. I believe after reading your article i have been motivated to read more blogs as i got immense learnings about the technology adding on to my knowledge.After putting a serious thought to it i realized it can be used in following areas:
1)Construction: It would allow create a more customized and personalized creation. Every construction would easily monitored and the plus side it would be flawless.
2)As a Guide: Enable people to locate and gather knowledge about a particular place. Often tourists find problem and have to spend in finding a guide who can take them for a tour in a city or for knowing about a monument.
3)Operations field:In a field like operation it is neccesary that one should be able to understand the structure of a product in order to create a perfect or desired design with impeccablity.Ex In creating a model of Car or its design which could even solve the present problems faced in Electrical cars.
4)Biotecnology: This technology would be extemely useful in understanding the way our cells work which can be used to understand the complexity associated with functioning of viruses in human body. This can help in developing solutions to diseases which have been still uncured. Ex AIDS, Cancer,Bird Flu etc to name some.
