Russell gives the example of a stamp collector who can get tremendous happiness and satisfaction from reviewing his collection from time to time. This is high quality happiness - it does not hurt anyone else, it does not depend on anyone else, it can be called up at any time.
I was reminded of this when I came upon my friend Vaibhav Gadodia's blog post on photographing a kingfisher (click here to read this and other interesting posts such as this one - you may even want to become a regular reader of Habitually Good). Vaibhav is a highly busy (and intelligent) technical person. Still he takes time out for his photography, which he started barely a year ago. The quality of his pictures has steadily increased and he posts the best ones on the web (click on the picture below to get to the Flickr photostream).

An interesting side effect is that he now has yet another thing to discuss with people he meets in the course of his work. So he does not appear as a one-dimensional techie to them. He is now even more successful at sales.
Do you have a hobby that you are proud of? What is it?

Dear Sir,
After reading the post i suddenly felt an inclination towards reinventing creativity in the form of hobbies, coincidentally the hobby which i cherish the most is photography which i picked up during my school days, but somehow i lost bearing of it with the course of time. After looking at Vaibhav Sir's snaps i was mesmerized because they were very natural and to me he is a professional in photography. At last i would like to conclude that the best sought dissolution of work time stress can be achieved by involving and developing one's hobbies.Thank you Sir for sharing such a great learning.

Manas, awesome posts.
You are right, a hobby really is a high quality happiness. It totally refreshes you psychologically; it gets rid of stress that accumulates as part of work and life.
And yes, there are countless examples when my hobbies (even this particular one) helps create conversation topics with people - whether it be an important customer, a prospect, or a total stranger sitting next to you at the airport.
And I thank your readers for saying such nice words about me.
Dear Sir,
I am in complete agreement with the statement "to be happy pick up a hobby", even I have a hobby of collecting coins and as you mentioned in the blog, it really gives me a lot of pleasure when I count them (daily!)

Dear Sir,
What can I say, I always felt that my hobby is the only thing which make me happy, enthusiastic and passionate even in tough times.
My hobby is walking. It is bit different, and at times people make fun of it, saying, "How walking can be a hobby". Even during the interviews I had faced this situation.
But I believe when a walk I am in a different world of happiness, also I it gives me a feeling of always moving ahead in life.
In my words
"Every time I am in a mess, I always ask my feet's for what to do next.
Not because number of people doing that are very few, it's only because it's their answer I always knew"
That's all about my hobby.
I really thank you for enlightening my emotions attached with my hobby.
Regards
Respected Sir,
When i was studying in class-2 my teacher taught me an essay on 'my hobby'. As per that definition a hobby is something that we do in leisure time but when we start our professional life we never get such leisure time to enjoy. So, a hobby is something that makes me happy when i am tired or in despair.
My hobby is thinking, analysing activities and people around me. This helps me in developing my thought process. Some of my friends adviced me to stop this process and i should involve myself more with people.
Do you think this hobby is exacerbating my social life.
